Blogger Limits clothing to 33 items!? Make sure you read this.

She was the first person to post this concept on her blog and Facebook. She then realized she wasn't the only one who wanted to dress for less. She says the challenge has done more than just save her money.

"What we are finding now is that we had to reduce our expense and our expenses and out expectations of what made us happy"

she said from her home in Cotton wood Heights, Utah.
Courtney Carver, 41, isn't alone. Virginia Smith, Vogue's fashion market director, said that more and more people are clearing out closets to deal with less. " I do think it is a new thought in fashion that is getting out to the more mainstream," she said.
Virginia said that this challenge is to severe for most people. " I think when things turned had a couple of years ago, I think people had to pare down and really consider their purchases. Thinking about what you are purchasing is a good thing!"

"I am ready to make big (and small) changes to live my life on purpose. I am a writer and photographer. I love yoga, creating simple meals and hiking and skiing in the Mountainwest. I also love to travel and have my sites on a future in Mexico, living simply, on the beach." -Courtney Carver

Courtney used to walk into a store feeling like she deserved something new because of her hard working life. In result, she would walk out having spent a good hundred dollars or more. She said "I did it out of habit" and it just became a burden to her credit card. This month she will have completed her 333 Project. Thus, this project means that she will have only 33 items all together by three months past.
So far, about 440 facebookers have joined her in this challenge along with 40 of us bloggers! Next month she is opening a website so she can guide people through a clothing diet.
Melissa Leventon, a fashion historian at California College of the Arts, said the idea of having a minimal wardrobe isn't new. 100 years ago, it wasn't unheard of for a working-class woman to have only three dresses and two or three pair of shoes that would be worn until they fell apart. But the question is, "Can people do it today?"
Our society today, especially us Americans, tend to consume many things that we just don't even need! And sooner or later, all we have is just useless clutter.
Tammy Strobel, a 32-year-old blogger, has been doing the "100 Thing Challenge" for going on two years now. Rowdy Kittens is her blog  that she has been posting her challenge through out. That number includes books, shoes, clothes and even a helmet. She lives in a 400 Square-foot apartment in Portland, Ore. with a husband and two cats. She feels that the uncluttered space gives her a relief.
A New York-based stylist Phillip Bloch said:

"I think its a way to keep your life under control. If

your going to go minimalist, do it with style!"

Here is another blogger that has been doing the challenge.
In a weeks time, this person has gotten rid of 53 things.

Some of my Thoughts:
I like the thought of it and I feel like it would be challenging. I'd like to try it. I don't know if I could make it all the way down to 100 items! But I do know that I'm sure I can get rid of 100 things. I have a lot of clutter and things that I don't use so I'm going to start with the small things like going through my closet and getting rid of old shirts that I don't wear or clothing items that are out of style. Even a lava lamp that I haven't used in years. haha! So all you bloggers should take the challenge up with me! I'm not saying that you should get rid of every single thing until you only have 100 possessions. But what I am asking is that you throw away/ sell / donate 100 things of yours. I'll update you all with a list of stuff I've gotten rid of as I go through this challenge. I think  it's going to be fun!

  1. LOVE this post! I haven't been this regimented in my de-cluttering, but I like the approach. About a year ago my husband, dog, and I moved into a 500 sq ft home. It has been a BIG adjustment, but I have enjoyed it. I went through my closet and only kept the things that "I feel excited to wear". Good luck! I can't wait to see your updates.

  4. Oh my! I've picked out over 20 pairs of shoes to sell/donate, but I don't think I could ever get my wardrobe down to only 33 items. Impossible for me! Good luck to you - please document if you do this!!

  6. Great post! I've been wanting to do this for a while, but as you mentioned, it would be very challenging. There was an interesting article in New York Times couple of months ago about people going on 'fashion diets.'
